09.02.2023 from Roy Durgan
Very quiet tyres, very smooth comfort.
20.04.2022 from Irving Stewart
The MX5 Mk3 NC is generally regarded by enthusiasts as the worst handling of all the MX5's due to its extra height, weight, and suspension settings but I deliberately selected this particular version for its comfort, power folding roof, and pleasant ride. When first purchased the car was fitted with ridiculously wide [10"] rims shod with obscure American tyres. It handled like a pig, followed every white line, and a matchstick on the road felt like a small boulder. Fortunately I swapped the big wheels, with another enthusiast, and acquired a set of 16" Momo alloys. These wheels were shod with Falken tyres, two of which were almost new and two almost shot. The decision was whether to change tyre brand completely or see how the Falkens fared. The various MX5 Forums showed a wide range of differing views on the best tyres for my MX5, at hugely differing costs, so I decided as an experiment to stick with the with Falkens and subsequently fitted a new pair to the front. At this stage I should add that it has taken me three years to rebuild this MX5, it is probably my last car, and it is very rarely driven to its limits. Whilst I still enjoy a spirited drive around the enticing Welsh and Shropshire roads, and the occasional run to Essex and the South Coast, I gave up thrashing my cars when I retired from the circuits over 50 years ago! Today safety, comfort, and pleasure are my prioroties! Over three years the Falkens have performed well for "budget" tyres. In the dry they behave well, are quiet, and very predictable. In the wet they can be induced to loose grip [especially on the rear] but I have never had the front break away unexpectedly or in a dangerous manner. An over enthusiastic right foot will induce wheelspin when pulling away in the wet, even in town, but the Falkens soon regain traction. In the dry the rear can be induced to "hang out" but I have never had any major concerns about the car swapping ends. Some of the younger members of the MX5 fraternity have told me that [when run at higher pressure] the Falkens behave well on the track but wear quite quickly which is something I have not tried, and will not experience. Compared to the exhorbitant wear rate of far more expensive "leading" tyre brands experienced by my friends [some as low as 12,500miles per set] on far more recent premium cars, I am more than satisfield with the Fakens and will probably, eventually, replace them with the same brand.
02.03.2022 from Fi Hoang
Great tyres at a good price. Well Recommended.
05.01.2021 from John
Very happy with the tyres - excellent grip in wet or dry conditions. Also wearing well and reasonably quiet.

08.10.2023 from David Davies
Hold the road well, good braking in wet or dry, good wear, quiet tyre, reasonably priced.
08.01.2023 from Karl
These are a great tyre at a decent price point, and although the price has been creeping up, I would buy them again. The wet weather handling is especially good and gives real confidence in heavy rain.
10.11.2022 from Will Allen
Very confidence inspiring tyre sadly all four tyres started cracking badly at the base of the tread grove after only two years. I rated Avon tyres very highly in the past but I would never buy the brand again.
24.03.2020 from Ricky
Was warned against this make and model by a friend in kwik fit who said the tyres perish and crack along the tread and I’m aft he was right. I only ignored his advice because they were cheap.

29.07.2025 from Tom
These tyres in my rear wheel drive BMW are grippy in the dry, but leave me yearning for more in the wet. The car will "step-out" if I punch it whilst the road is even midly damp. My tracking was done at the same time as having these fitted so that is not a factor. The car will also step out if the road is more greasy looking.

Toyo summer tyres for sophisticated needs

Toyo Tyre and Rubber is a leading manufacturer represented in more than 100 countries worldwide. It has existed since 1945, with its headquarters in Osaka, Japan. Toyo Tyres has been a presence in Europe for more than 3 decades, with the latest major EU move being the establishment of Toyo Tyre Europe GmbH. This business is based in Neuss, Germany, where all European activities are managed. Toyo Tyres focuses on developing high-end, premium performance tyres, which is why their racing tyres are an excellent choice for sporty drivers.

The top Toyo summer tyres for your perusal

So if you are into racing, or you enjoy driving at higher speeds, a great option is the Proxes T1-R, which packs everything you need for high-speed stability and exemplary handling in the dry and the wet. Modern design technologies like the new silica compound and unidirectional tread patterns deliver stable and responsive steering and consistent traction. V-shaped main grooves disperse water for improved wet performance, and rugged design features guarantee durability.

The Proxes CF2 uses the latest advances in materials, structures and tread patterns to offer a high level of safety, durability, fuel efficiency and comfort for passenger cars. The active polymer compound improves rolling resistance, yielding more miles to the gallon, which is extremely useful for drivers in need of light truck tyres. The main grooves are wide, allowing superb wet braking and resistance to aquaplaning. Add to that the optimised stiffness of patterns to enhance all these features, and the shoulder rib block that reduces noise, and you get everything you need in one smart, efficient package.

High tech research and testing for Toyo summer tyres:

  • T-Mode is Toyo’s latest computer simulation technology to virtually test tyres in all manner of driving conditions and help optimise design and performance.
  • Toyo’s testing programmes are among the most comprehensive and aggressive in the industry. This helps boost their pioneering status of creating new technologies and breaking new ground in design and manufacture.
  • Toyo’s silent wall technology disturbs air flow in the grooves to reduce noise levels for a quiet, comfortable ride.

Toyo summer tyres are the high tech choice

With a set of Toyo summer tyres, you will get all the benefits of their sophisticated design techniques and rigorous testing. At www.tyre-guru.ie we appreciate quality, and if you’re looking for the best then Toyo has you covered.
