Compared to winter tyres, the rubber mixture of the summer tyres is harder, even in high temperatures. Identify the size of your tyre
The exact dimensions of a tyre can be found on the sidewall printed mark. The graphic shows how to read properties and dimensions of the tyre:

SPEED INDEX:
The speed index indicates the maximum speed intended for the tyre. Up to this value, the manufacturer guarantees optimum operation with the appropriate tyre pressure. The maximum speed allowed for this vehicle is given in the vehicle owner's manual; this information can be used to select the appropriate speed index for the tyre. The speed index is the last mark on the sidewall of the tyre.
 
Load Index
Permissible maximum axle load per tyre in kg. To be found in the registration certificate or vehicle registration document or read directly from the tyre (two-digit number). It is permitted to fit a tyre with a higher load index.
 
Driving safety despite puncture
Runflat tyres are puncture-resistant tyres with reinforced sidewalls. This creates the so-called run-flat property. In the event of damage, this allows the vehicle to continue driving up to a distance of approx. 100 km (and even beyond depending on the product) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h, even if the pressure has been completely lost. Run-flat tyres even prevent the tyre rubber from jumping off the rim in the event of a loss of air pressure. A flat tyre is therefore still a flat tyre, but it loses some of its drama. Note: All run-flat tyres are marked with the symbol "RSC" (Runflat System Component) and may only be fitted in vehicles with a functioning air pressure control system!
 
Tyres with increased load capacity
Reinforced tyres are designed for higher loads than normal tyres. They can be identified by the designation 'RF' (reinforced) or also 'XL' or 'Extra Load'. They are used on vans, minibuses, off-road vehicles, etc. However, their mounting alone does not automatically result in higher load capacity but also requires a correspondingly higher air pressure. Furthermore, the load capacity index specified in the vehicle documents continues to apply.
 
Tyres with extra high load capacity
The "C" in the term C tyres stands for "commercial". These tyres are specially designed for commercial vehicles. These can be, for example, lighter trucks, delivery vans, flatbed trucks or panel vans. In other words: vehicles that have to move higher loads at a comparatively lower speed. The multi-ply reinforced C tyres are therefore even more load-bearing than reinforced tyres.
 
Mobility-optimised tyres
A tyre with a sealing layer on the opposite side of the tyre tread. In the event of a puncture (e.g. by a nail), this layer blocks any loss of air, even if the foreign body causing the puncture is still in the tyre. It is not necessary to stop or change the tyres immediately at the roadside.

Excellent driving experience on these tyres. They feel safe, sturdy and solid on the road in heat, heavy rain, slippery roads due to mud, country roads, uneven and good surfaces, I have not yet tried in snow or ice. To any walkers reading this, they feel like vibram soles for my car!

The tyres were 7/10 when I got them, the wet straight line grip is great the dry performance is above average. Quiet and comfortable tyres. The tyre wear is poor, I had new arms,tie rods, drop links and bushings as well as alignment done afterwards. The tyres showed excessive wear on the edge after only 8000 miles. I always check tyre pressure every week.

These tyres perform well, they're comfortable and they're quiet, but they're fragile and wear too quickly. They get punctured and damaged really easily and don't last as long as I would expect. I've had two full sets of these tyres but after yet another puncture I'm sick of constantly having to change them so I've had them all replaced with another brand. I won't buy these again and I don't recommend them.

Our other car is a kuga and if I was reviewing it on that it would be a differant review however given the car has over 300lb/ft of torque these aren't the tyres you want on the rears (they were on the car when I bought it). In the wet the traction control light is a permenant fixture if I get spirited and corners can be challenging if taken with some gusto so in short on a focus or an Astra fine but something with a bit of oomph I would pass on them and spend a bit more. You'll only end up taking them off

These are the B-Silent Model and they were 235/55 R19 105Y but this system will not let me specify 55 height. These tyres are absolutely brilliant! I fitted them on the rear and they stopped the road noise from the rear completely. I just wish I had not fitted something different to the front previously, as soon as the fronts wear out I will change to these. I have had no problem with grip, despite racing others around roundabouts.

The biggest problem with these tyres ar that they do not have rip protection. I have been using Hancooks on my previous car, so when looking for tyres for my current car, Hancooks came to mind. I had a better driving experience with the tyres that I replaced.

These tyres give a superb quiet ride. I also have these tyres fitted to the front of my vehicle, which have now completed 45,000 km and the wear is every bit as good as the Michelin tyres they replaced. Although I do not drive in an aggressive manner I have not noticed any detriment in road holding or fuel consumption.

Fitted to the vehicle already when purchased.. They are an adequate budget tyre for perhaps city driving however they are poor in the wet. Lack any feedback in more active driving and in the wet have poor grip and braking performance with significant understeer in even damp conditions with even slightly 'active' driving. I've removed them off the car half worn and replaced with a premium brand as I'm not comfortable with their performance on mainly wet UK roads.

I bought these tires as a cheaper alternative to a Continental tire, because the grip in wet conditions was rated excellent. That seems to be true. This type of tire is designed for lower rolling resistance and increased fuel economy - often that comes with lower wet grip. Not in this case.

Get on the growing bandwagon with Apollo summer tyres

Apollo is a brand that was established in India back in 1976. In its relatively short history, it has made great strides and recently experienced a boom after acquiring Vredestein – it is now the 15th largest tyre manufacturer in the world. Its headquarters are in India, but it has production plants in Africa and Europe, and its tyres are fitted as original equipment on Volkswagen Polo cars that are built in India. The European market accounts for one third of its sales.

Popular Apollo summer tyres in the market

The newest release from Apollo was unveiled in 2018, and is the Aspire XP summer tyre. This tyre builds on previous accomplishments by Apollo, boasting significant improvements to handling and braking in the wet. It comes in 52 fitments, and is the replacement for the Aspire 4G and Apterra HP tyres. Alternatively, the Apollo Amazer 3G Maxx is a great choice, with superb performance on dry roads and exceptional traction and driving comfort. The wet performance is not to be scoffed at either.

Another popular option is the Apollo Acelere, which offers great value without compromising on quality. Its major strengths are its dry performance and traction in all summer conditions, while its noise level offers great driving comfort. Where do summer tyres differ from winter ones?

  • The first difference is structure – winter tyres are softer, and maintain their suppleness in lower temperatures to increase traction when it’s cold.
  • The second is the rubber compound – the winter compound is typically higher in rubber content, further enhancing the performance at lower temperatures.
  • Winter tyres have features to help deal with things like snow and ice, which don’t generally happen in the summer.
